HB 1372 "Concerning the voluntary donation of umbilical cords for the purpose of aiding in the cure of life-threatening diseases through the use of adult blood stem cells."
This bill will create an adult stem cells cure fund in the state treasury.This bill will also require the department of public health and environment to set standards for hospitals for the donation and collection of umbilical cord blood for hospitals that choose to participate in umbilical cord donation.
The Colorado Catholic Conference SUPPORTS this legislation.Adult stem cell research, which does not harm the embryo, is morally permissible and is providing treatments for over 70 different medical conditions.Adult stem cell research has a proven track record of success and this type of legislation is important and needed in the state of Colorado.This bill will be heard on Monday March 31, 2008 in the House Health & Human Services Committee.Please contact your representative and members of this committee and ask them to SUPPORT this important piece of legislation.
